Bay Trail Project
In this photographic series, I explore the San Francisco Bay shoreline and the intricate relationship between history, humanity, and this ever-evolving landscape.
This is where I live, hike, and sail. While I always knew that the edges of the Bay held a rich history, looking through my camera lens revealed a new perspective — a layered narrative of transformation and coexistence.
The San Francisco Bay is a dynamic terrain, shifting between developed spaces, industry and stretches of marshland and open space. Its human inhabitants often hold an ambiguous connection to the land, balancing a love for nature with the demands of modern life.
We cherish the outdoors yet rely on fossil fuels to explore it. We build trails to reconnect with nature, only to encounter remnants of human impact: abandoned furniture, refineries, and sprawling suburbs juxtaposed against beautiful Bay landscapes.
There is still an undeniable magic to this place — Feeling the wind on your skin, watching the rhythmic ripples and sparkles on the water and the grasses and trees on shore reflecting the light and shifting with the breeze.
This series captures the complexity and contradiction of a unique landscape, its constant state of flux and the tension between preservation and progress.
