About
After a career in museums and the arts, Jennifer returned to photography in 2022, focusing on a deep observation of the natural world in the San Francisco Bay Area and the environmental challenges it faces.
While living in the Bay Area, Jennifer learned to sail and can often be found racing sailboats on the weekends. In the process, she learned about the tides and currents, the wind patterns and the diverse ecosystem of the San Francisco Bay and connecting waterways. Sailing also enabled Jennifer to see the landscape of the Bay from a different perspective, noticing not only the beautiful landmarks like the Golden Gate Bridge and the San Francisco skyline from the water, yet also the many other man-made structures along the Bay shore: refineries, old landfills, prisons, a quarry, marshlands that have been altered by humans over the course of time. While some of the land has been restored to its natural state over the years, the impact of humans remains etched in the landscape and can be seen in Jennifer’s photographs.
Although much of her work is focused on the water, Jennifer also documents the nuances of suburban landscapes and small cities, particularly in her East Bay neighborhood.
Jennifer holds a B.A. in Art History, has completed coursework for an M.A. in Museum Studies, and earned a Specialized Certificate in Digital Photography from UC Berkeley Extension.
